Joe
Sorry Joe, you're incorrect on your assumptions on all accounts. I've got nothing to do with gas, drilling or Marcellus Shale. My comment was directed specifically about you angrily posting something that was openly discussed for months and claiming it was some type of back room deal. And no, I'm not a shill or related to any of the Commissioners either. No one else decided to point out that you missed the boat on the discussions that took place during the meetings and that it was in the paper, so I did. And I don't read the paper on a daily basis, but I still remember seeing it in there.
I guess the question I would ask you is did the county own the property before you bought/built your home or did they buy it afterwards? If they bought it after, then I can understand some of your disappointment, but either way, whomever owned the property can determine who to sell it to and what they can use it for as long as it falls within the zoning guidelines. And yes, if I was fortunate enough to have a large tract of land and there was interest in natural resources on it, I'd let them drill on my property. But, I don't have that large tract of land either.
So I guess my reply to your original post was simply pointing out that you were apparently asleep at the wheel on this one and were directing your anger and frustration in the worng direction. But I also don't have a problem with the Commissioners looking at ways to increase the revenue flow without having to cut services or raise taxes, so I applaud them for that.
Like I said previously, had they built the prison there or sold Sunnyview to someone who wanted to use the property for something else, you could have been facing much worse problems than simply a gas well.
