Ethel McCandless

Ethel McCandless of Slippery Rock celebrated her 96th birthday with a luncheon held in her honor.

She was born Jan. 16, 1915, at home in Clay Township.

She was married to Donald McCandless Sr., who passed away in 1995.

She has three children, Donald McCandless Jr. of West Sunbury, Robert “Bob” McCandless at home and Nellie Arblaster of Slippery Rock.

Mrs. McCandless has been a homemaker and also enjoyed gardening, which she did until her early 90s.

She is a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

Mrs. McCandless is the oldest member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Slippery Rock. She has attended church there since the 1930s and still attends regularly.
