Hoehn 100th birthday

Mary Catherine Hoehn of Zelienople will celebrate her 100th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at New Haven Court, 100 Burgess Drive, Zelienople.

The former Mary Catherine Rieger was born Jan. 16, 1911.

She married Albert Hoehn on Jan. 28, 1935, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Butler in a double wedding with her sister. He is deceased.

She has two children, Richard Hoehn of Adelphi, Md., and Ruth (Hoehn) Stoyer of Groveland, Fla.

She also has eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She graduated in 1929 from Slippery Rock State Teacher’s College. She later earned a bachelor’s from Slippery Rock University.

Mrs. Hoehn is retired after 40 years as a teacher in the Butler School District.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 421 of Butler County.

She is a life member of the Alumni Association of Slippery Rock University and a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association and Butler County Retired Teachers Association. She also is a member of the Women’s Club of Butler, Butler Business and Professional Women’s Club and Thiel College Women’s Club.

Since moving to Passavant Health Center, she has served on the executive board of the Residence Association and was a resident buddy and welcome volunteer until her failing eyesight prevented her from participating.

In 2001, she was inducted into the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame.

She is an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Butler, where she taught Sunday school for 45 years.
