Nioma "Betsy" Hopper Hutchison, 82, of Butler, formerly of Foxburg, died Sunday at the Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She is at peace and thanking God for a warm and safe place to rest, as she did every night.

She was born April 2, 1928, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Joseph J. Bourk and Burla Edinger Bourk.

She spent her childhood traveling throughout the South with her mother and sister, but eventually moved to Foxburg, where she lived until 1965 when she then moved to Butler, where she lived and worked until her death.

Mrs. Hutchison was a volunteer throughout her life as a Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and a member and past president of the Elks Auxiliary in Butler.

She was employed by Lutheran Services in various types of food service for more than 10 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Butler.

She loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

She is survived by her four children, Karen Cassin of Bradford, Randolph Hopper of Fairborn, Ohio, and Kristianne Bartley and Rod Hopper and his wife, Sara, of Foxburg; two stepchildren, Maureen Huff of Butler and Kevin Hutchison of Anna Maria, Fla.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her sister, Patty Neese and her husband, Jack, of Pleasantville; and her good friends and helpers, Tracy Weiland of Butler and Kathryn Stevenson of Herman.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert E. Hopper; and her second husband, John V. Hutchison.
