Concetta "Nonna" Costa, 90, of Hoffman Estates, Ill., died at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 12 in the St. Alexius Hospital.

Born April 9, 1920, in Piazza Armerina, Sicily, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Paolo Costa and Salvatrice Milazzo Costa.

Concetta grew up in Sicily and moved to Milan, Italy, where she worked as a seamstress until she was 72. She moved to America to live with her daughter, Giuseppa "Pina" Meder in 1994.

She was a lifelong Catholic and enjoyed politics, sewing, cooking, family and a need to help others.

Concetta is survived by three sons, Santino Pisano, Gaetano Pisano and Paolo Pisano, all of Italy; two daughters, Salvatrice Spagnola of Italy and Giuseppa (Pina) Meder of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; 18 grandchildren, Francesco Zappala of Italy, Concetta Zappala of Butler, Lerrizia Zappala of Florida, Alexander Meder of Portersville, Christopher Meder of Portersville, Rosaria Latina of Italy, Marimo Pisano of Italy, Marco Pisano of Italy, Amedeo Pisano of Italy, Rosella Pisano of Italy, Davide Pisano of Italy, Concetta Latina of Italy, Tiziana Pisano of Italy, Daniele Pisano of Italy, Piero Pisano of Italy, Domenico Latina of Italy, Tamara Pisano of Italy, and Claudia Allen of Florida; 19 great-grandchildren, Victoria Baptiste of Butler, Jordan Meder of Slippery Rock, Brandon Meder of Portersville, Aubrey Meder of Portersville, Michaela Meder of Portersville, Kaitlyn Meder of Portersville, Tiffany Duncan of Butler, Samantha Zappala of Italy, Jonathan Baptiste of Butler, Francesco Spagnola of Italy, Manuel Spagnola of Italy, Gary Spagnola of Italy, Francesca Latina of Italy, Nicole Pisano of Italy, Veronica Pisano of Italy, Julio Spena of Italy, Angela Spena of Italy, Roberta Pisano of Italy and Jasmine Pisano of Italy; and one sister, Carolina Pisano of Italy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pietro Pisano, who passed away in 1995.

<B>COSTA</B> — A memorial Mass for Concetta "Nonna" Costa, who died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, will be at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Friday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. with Father Steven Neff officiating.The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the church to recite the rosary.Arrangements are under the direction of the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, and information and a private guest book are available at www.thompson-miller.com.
