Werth

Richard P. Werth, 94, of Butler passed away Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital surrounded by members of his loving family.

Mr. Werth was born June 29, 1916, in Butler, a son of the late William A. and Anna (Redd) Werth Sr. He was the last survivor of their seven children.

He was a graduate of Butler High School and a lifelong parishioner of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. Werth married Gertrude M. Gibson on June 26, 1940, and they recently celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Surviving him are his wife, Gertrude; four sons, James (Judy) of Lake Mary Fla., Robert (Rita) of Las Vegas, Nev., John (Mary Kay) of Amherst, Ohio, and Thomas (Debra) of Butler; and two daughters, Carol (Michael) Greenberg of Merced, Calif., and Joyce Werth (John) of Modesto, Calif. He also is survived by 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, William, and a grandson, Ian McClosky.

Mr. Werth was a foreman in the melt shop at the Armco Steel Co., where he worked for 33 years.

After his retirement in 1973, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. Mr. Werth's greatest joy in life was being with his devoted family.

He was told by many that he was "the nicest man they ever met." He enjoyed drawing and sharing stories of his lifetime experiences, and he will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know him.

<B>Werth </B>— Friends of Richard P. Werth, who died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, will be received at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m., at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Butler.The St. Paul Guild and Christian Mothers will meet at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday at the church to recite the rosary.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
