9:23 a.m. Wednesday — Jennifer M. Pennington, 26, of Butler is accused of shoplifting several items at the Kmart store at Pullman Square. She later took the items to the service desk and returned the merchandise for a cash refund. Pennington faces a charge of retail theft.6:30 p.m. Saturday — Three Butler men were caught after trying to break into a car wash on South Monroe Street. The suspects allegedly attempted to pry open a door at the business.Officers caught the men hiding in a ditch in weeds about 50 yards behind the car wash, according to court documents. Nearby, police found half a 12-pack of beer and a pry bar.Arrested were Anthony Kormick, 20; Ryan T. McCommon, 20; and Shane A. McCommon, 22. They are all charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, possessing instruments of crime, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.Additionally, Kormick and Ryan McCommon are charged with underage drinking, and Shane McCommon is charged with furnishing alcohol to minors.

Tuesday — Ericka Lynn Lander, 27, of Grove City was arrested on charges she stole checks belonging to a borough woman. The suspect later forged the owner's signature and between Sept. 17 and Nov. 11 cashed 11 of the checks.Lander is charged with forgery, theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception and access device fraud.

Tuesday — A back door was broken and more than $5,600 in jewelry, prescription medication and a laptop computer were stolen in a burglary at a home on Bullcreek Road in Jefferson Township. The break-in happened between 6:45 a.m. and 4 p.m.Tuesday — Fifteen cardigan-style sweaters — worth $750 — were shoplifted during the day at New York and Company in the Clearview Mall, Center Township.8:50 a.m. Monday — Edward L. Reges apparently likes his pancakes.The 67-year-old Butler man told a trooper when his step daughter allowed him only one egg and two pieces of sausage for breakfast, but no flap jacks, he got mad and tried to leave her Clearfield Township home.When 48-year-old Mary Durnell would not let him use the cell phone, police said, he socked her in the nose. Reges is charged in the breakfast battle with simple assault and harassment.

6:30 p.m. Tuesday — Michele Augspurger, 18, of Grove City was hurt when the car she was driving collided with a sport utility vehicle at Route 208 and the Interstate 79 ramp in Springfield Township. Augspurger, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Jesse R. Sylvester, 21, of Beaver Falls, Beaver County, the SUV driver, was cited for making an improper turn.
