Jeeps, Buicks, Cadillacs being recalled

WASHINGTON General Motors said Thursday it is recalling nearly 14,000 sedans to address potential problems with the power steering. Chrysler, meanwhile, is recalling about 16,000 Jeep Liberty SUVs to fix faulty windshield wiper systems.

GM’s recall involves certain 2010 and 2011 model year Cadillac DTS and Buick Lucerne sedans with V8 engines. The cars have alternator cables that can wear through a power steering line, leading to a fluid leak. A leak could cause a loss of power steering.

Chrysler’s recall involves certain 2008 model year Jeep Liberty SUVs. Water could get into the windshield wiper motor and stop the wipers.

Jeep dealers will replace the windshield wiper motor free of charge. The recall is expected to begin this month. Owners can contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403.

GM dealers will secure the steering lines and reroute them if necessary to prevent contact with the alternator cable at no cost to owners. The recall is expected to begin by Nov. 19. Owners can contact Cadillac at 866-982-2339 and Buick at 866-608-8080 or either online at www.gmownercenter.com.
