The

Mars High School Marching Band was named the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Marching Band Association’s (PIMBA) class AAA champion Oct. 30 with the high score of 86.15 under the direction of Tammi Redmond.Mars also took the award for High Music, High Visual and High General Effect.The band has earned championship titles in 11 of the last 15 years, most recently being named PIMBA class AA champions in 2008 and 2009, before moving to AAA class this year.The band is comprised of students from Mars High School and Mars Middle School.

Jason Callender of Chicora has accepted admission to the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio, where he will enroll in the automotive high performance technology program. A student at Karns City High School, he is the son of John and Kim Callender Jr. of Chicora.

Ashley Steele of Butler has begun studies at Saint Vincent College. She is the daughter of Steven Steele and Kelley Grabenstein.

Alyssa McKinney of Butler has begun studies at Saint Vincent College. She is the daughter of Ronald and Pamela McKinney.
