BROOKVILLE — Karns City seemed to control the play in the first half against Brookville.

Then, Ryan Kerr and the Raiders snatched it from the Gremlins.

Kerr, limited to nine yards on three carries in the first half, erupted for 149 yards on 18 carries, including a key touchdown early in the third quarter, to help the Raiders post a 25-15 victory Friday night.

Kerr had runs of 13, 3, 12 and 12 yards, the latter for a touchdown, to highlight the five-play, 44-yard drive to open the third quarter.

That gave Brookville (6-1) a 17-9 lead and followed Cam Yard's 28-yard field goal on the final play of the first half.

"That field goal, especially knowing we would get the ball to start the second half, that was huge," said Brookville coach Chris Dworek.

"There were two times where we were defending a play and we were not lined up right," said Karns City coach Ed Conto. "In the second half, we gave up, and that's what ticked me off."

The Gremlins had run 37 offensive plays to 13 for Brookville in the first half, but the Raiders took the lead when Josh Frondek picked up a fumble by Gremlins quarterback Dylan Hipple and ran 45 yards with 4:18 left in the first quarter.

"We were opportunistic," said Dworek. "We were not getting rattled early and we stayed focused. I thought we could handle (Karns City's) run game, but the passing game I didn't expect.

"Their conversions were frustrating because we were not able to get the ball," he added. "It was great on defense, where we were able to get a touchdown there. That took pressure off the offense."

The Gremlins (2-5) countered with a 15-play, 73-yard drive, capped by a Tyler Slagle 4-yard reception.

The Gremlins ran on 12 of those 15 plays, continuing the first-half theme of ball control.

After holding the Raiders to another three-and-out, the Gremlins drove to the Brookville 6, but they settled for a 28-yard Adam Garing field goal with 2:29 before halftime.

The Brookville offense finally showed signs of life when quarterback Steve Kennedy directed an eight-play drive that resulted in the Yard field goal.

The key play was a 37-yard slant route to Derek Shattenberg, which gave the Raiders a first down at the 11-yard line with 7.4 seconds left.

An incomplete pass followed, leaving one-half second on the clock and giving Yard the chance to kick the field goal.

After Kerr's touchdown, Hipple threw a pair of interceptions in the red zone on the Gremlins' next two possessions.

Brookville iced the game early in the fourth quarter when it reeled off eight running plays for 66 yards before Kennedy scored on a 1-yard keeper.

Karns City responded with an impressive 12-play, 61-yard drive on which Slagle scored from 2 yards out with 3:38 to play.

Trying to make it a one-possession game, the Gremlins opted for a two-point conversion attempt, but the pass failed.

"We've got a long way to go," said Conto. "Last week (against Hickory), we played hard, played with heart. ... Are we going to lay down and get kicked or are we going to get back up after it?"

Notes: Karns City had two touchdowns called back because of penalties. .... Slagle led the team with 65 yards rushing and four catches. ... Hipple finished with 106 passing yards.
