Magazine honors Eagle's director of technology

Tammy Schuey, Eagle director of technology, receives a Production All Star award from Mark Fitzgerald of Editor and Publisher.

CHICAGO — Tammy Schuey, director of technology for the Butler Eagle, received a national newspaper production award.

She was one of 15 people nationally to be honored as a 2010 Production All Star by Editor and Publisher magazine. She accepted the award Oct. 2 at the International Newspaper Group 2010 Annual Conference.

Schuey has been directing improvements in production processes at the Butler Eagle since being promoted to director of technology in 2003. She has been at the Eagle since 1991.

She had implemented several computer upgrades and replacements in the advertising and editorial departments.

This July she oversaw a major shift at the paper when it changed the size of newsprint from a width of 50 inches to 44 inches. This included coordinating changes in the press operations as well as in the advertising and editorial departments.

Ron Vodenichar, Eagle general manager, said, "As the only person employed here skilled to do all of the necessary layout and reductions needed, she put in immeasurable time while still keeping us operating day to day."

Schuey said she takes a simple approach to the job: Whatever project improves the look of the paper and efficiency of the workflow is her priority.

She is a board member of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce, on the steering committee of the Boy Scout Moraine Trails Council Distinguished Award Dinner, and is a member of this year's Leadership Butler County class. She also heads the Eagle Quality Control Committee.
