CHERRY TWP — Moniteau needed a hero to win its homecoming game against Union Friday night.

With regular starting quarterback Kyle Armagost out for the first quarter for undisclosed reasons, freshman Dustin Geagan had to lead the Warriors.

Geagan rushed for 142 yards on 18 carries and helped the team to a 34-0 win over the Golden Knights.

Geagan added a 26-yard touchdown run on a designed Statue-of-Liberty play in the third quarter that gave the Warriors a 27-0 lead.

"We were a little worried coming into the game," Geagan said. "But the line stepped up, the run was open for us all night and we played as a team."

After the Golden Knights turned the ball over on the first possession, Geagan started the team on an 18-play, 79-yard touchdown drive that took nearly eight minutes. The drive started in the first quarter and ended with a 1-yard run on Armagost's first snap of the game in the second quarter.

Union coach Dave Louder said that the first touchdown drive foreshadowed how his defense would play. The Knights allowed 410 total yards, 294 of them on the ground.

"We missed a fumble and an interception on that drive," Louder said. "It was tough because it seemed like every time we had them in a third or fourth down, one person wouldn't do their job and they'd get a first down. They picked up a fourth-and-12 on us with a running play."

Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell, who was dressed in a red dress shirt and black tie, emphasized a change in attitude for the Warriors.

"We really took one on the chin last week," Campbell said. "We really went back to basics this week in practice. We focused on us and not our opponents. That's what we need to do."

Armagost played like a man possessed after entering the game in the second quarter. After scoring on his first play, Armagost also threw two touchdown passes of 33 and 38 yards to Ethan Pry.

He finished 7 of 9 with 116 yards and two touchdown passes.

"Kyle played like Kyle," Campbell said. "He's a tremendous athlete and played well after getting his bell rung last week."

The Golden Knights also struggled mightily to move the ball against the Warriors defense. The Knights only had 102 yards of total offense (19 rushing, 83 passing).

"I think our win last week, we put too much stock in and didn't prepare well enough for this week," Louder said. "Monday were going to come out and work hard and try to get sharper for next week."
