9:56 a.m. Wednesday — A six-vehicle, chain-reaction crash at Route 8 South and Bean Street caused several injuries — none serious.The accident happened when a car driven by Ashley Montgomery, 18, of Butler struck the back of a vehicle driven by Shiana Smith, 18, of Grove City.In turn, police said, Smith's vehicle hit the back of a vehicle driven by Shawn Spithaler, 24, of Butler, which hit the back of a vehicle driven by Michael Rubel, 19, of McDonald, Washington County, which hit the back of a vehicle driven by Cheryl Palyash, 57, of Butler.A sixth vehicle driven by Alisha Law, 23, of Worthington, Armstrong County, police noted, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of Montgomery's car.A police report said there were minor injuries in the accident but no one needed medical treatment. Police did not identify anyone injured.Police said Palyash, who was stopped to make a left turn in front of all the other vehicles, was cited for careless driving because her car was stopped in the passing lane instead of the turning lane. She also was cited for a turning violation.Montgomery was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.2:45 p.m. Tuesday — Lori Ann Petanovich, 22, of Butler was arrested for allegedly shoplifting perfume at the Wal-Mart in Butler Commons. She is charged with retail theft.Petanovich also was wanted on an arrest warrant for possessing a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the township Sept. 13.6:47 a.m. Wednesday — A 12-year-old Butler girl was hurt when she walked in front of a pickup truck and was hit in the 100 block of East McQuistion Road. Police did not identify the girl, who was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Richard Macurdy, 57, of Butler was driving the pickup.2:47 p.m. Tuesday — A 22-year-old Missouri woman was arrested for allegedly shoplifting two filet mignon steaks and two Delmonico steaks at the Friedman's at Greater Butler Mart. The suspect, Daphnie Hadden, put the meat as well as a package of dog de-wormer in her purse. Hadden is charged with retail theft.
1 p.m. Monday — Devin L. Gilmore, 18, of Grove City swerved his car to avoid a dog and hit a utility pole along Enterprise Road in Pine Township.1:55 p.m. Saturday — Eleven spray bottles of perfume, worth $350, were stolen from Bath and Body Works at Prime Outlets in Springfield Township.Saturday — An early-1990s model, Kawasaki Bayou 220 all-terrain vehicle and a Craftsman riding lawn mower were stolen from an undisclosed location on Route 285, across from Brent Road, in Liberty Township. The property, valued at $1,000, was taken between July 4 and Saturday.
12:20 p.m. Sunday — Vehicles driven by Christina L. Gold, 27, of Harmony and Dennis Kacsan, 62, of Slippery Rock collided at Route 19 and Hunt Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. Police said Gold was cited for a stop sign violation.
