2 golfers make regional event

Laura Brestensky of Butler beat Seneca Valley's Alexis Brockway to help the Golden Tornado girls tennis team to a 5-0 win over the Raiders.

Seneca Valley's Mike McNulty carded a 76 to tie for third place at the WPIAL Division I Individual Golf Championship at Longue Vue Country Club in Verona Wednesday.

Bo Lustig of Belle Vernon was the overall winner with a 73, followed by Evan Sommer of South Park, Evan Ruhling of Penn Hills and Chris Cline of Hempfield, each of whom shot a 75.

Steve Sanderson of Indiana tied McNulty with a 76.

McNulty advanced to the Western Regional Oct. 18 at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville.

• A-C Valley's Logan Wetzel shot a two-day total of 154 to finish fourth at the District 9 Championships at Pinecrest Country Club.

Wetzel became the first A-C Valley golfer to qualify for the Western Regional. The 2010 edition is slated for Oct. 18 at Tom's Run Golf Course in Blairsville.
