Tuesday — Police cited 43-year-old Richie Ann Senchuk of Butler for animal cruelty after she allegedly abandoned a number of cats at her former 335 Virginia Ave. home earlier this month.Senchuk recently moved out of the home after city officials condemned the house as "uninhabitable," according to a police report.Police noted that they found many cats — all neglected but none dead — still at the home after the woman left.
12:51 p.m. Monday — Joshua M. Pethtel, 23, of Butler is accused of shoplifting an MP3 player at Wal-Mart in Butler Commons. Police said Pethtel is charged with retail theft.Middlesex Twp PoliceMonday — Sarah H. Gratton, 19, of Sewickley, Allegheny County, was charged with driving under the influence stemming from an 8:26 p.m. July 11 one-car crash at Leslie and Truver roads.Gratton admitted she was speeding when she lost control of her car, court documents said. The car spun around, leaving gouge marks on Truver Road, before going over a small embankment.In addition to DUI, Gratton is charged with minors prohibited from driving with alcohol in their system, underage drinking and driving at an unsafe speed.Monday — Police charged Maureen A. Ellenberger, 45, of Saxonburg with theft of leased property after she allegedly failed to return a Confederate jacket she rented in June from Costumes Etc. on Route 8.Store representatives later in June called her several times but could not reach her, court documents said. A certified letter, requesting the return of the costume, was later sent to and signed by the defendant in July.Still, police said, the costumer valued at $315 was not returned. The late fees for the property as of Monday, documents said, amounted to $110.
11:25 a.m. Tuesday — Brandy Lynn Williams, 24, of East Brady was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance at Route 366 and Tenth Avenue in Tarentum, Allegheny County.3 p.m. Monday — Four Worthington youths are suspected of stealing unspecified items from a home on Yellow Dog Road in West Franklin Township. Some of the stolen property was recovered from the suspects. Police said the investigation continues.1:10 a.m. Sunday — A 19-year-old Pittsburgh man was seriously injured when he fell more than 6 feet off a deck during an altercation at a get-together with friends in Bradys Bend Township.Police said another male attending the gathering at a Seybertown Road cabin hit Eric Pappalardo, sending Pappalardo over the deck and onto an asphalt driveway.Pappalardo suffered two facial fractures, three broken vertebrae and a brain contusion. He was taken to ACMH Hospital in Kittanning before being transferred to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.Police said Pappalardo is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.The incident, meanwhile, remains under investigation as a case of possible felony assault.
Wednesday — A sledge hammer-wielding burglar overnight broke into the Grove City Sportsman's Club and made off with a 5-foot riding lawn mower and several tools.The unknown thief used the hammer to break off the locks of the building at the shooting range of the club on Center Town Road in Pine Township. The crook employed a truck or trailer to steal the yellow, Hustler brand zero turn lawn mower from the building.But the burglar wasn't done yet. The suspect drove across the road to the club's main building and heaved a cinder block through a front window.Once inside, the suspect vandalized the building with the sledgehammer and a pry bar before taking the tools and trying to take another riding lawn mower.Investigators believe the crime spree happened between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday. A medical helicopter flew Angel M. Spencer, 30, of Franklin to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Police said Spencer, who was wearing a seat belt, was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
9:15 a.m. Tuesday — A silver metal box containing tools was found on the side of Shaffer Road near the Castlewood Rod and Gun Club in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The owner can claim the property by calling police at 724-598-2211.
