3:50 p.m. Saturday — John C. Beck, 42, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he and another man allegedly swiped a pair of orange traffic cones on East New Castle Street.A witness saw two men in a pickup truck stealing the cones and called police. Officers a short time later stopped the truck on North Main Street. An officer went to the vehicle and spotted a suspected marijuana pipe on the middle arm rest. The driver also appeared intoxicated, a police report said.Beck, meanwhile, in explaining the unusual theft told police that the traffic cones were "in his way and he kept hitting them so he decided to put them in his truck," the report said.Police said Beck is charged with theft and DUI. Richard L. McManus, 42, of Butler, a passenger in the pickup, is charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.Saturday — A pair of Oakley sunglasses and 45 compact discs were stolen overnight from a vehicle parked on Spang Avenue. The stolen property is valued at $190.Friday — An Armstrong County woman reported that someone stole the metal taillight cover from her sport utility vehicle on Fifth Avenue. The item is valued at $190.4:26 p.m. Tuesday — Bryan J. Kozar, 24, of Butler was arrested for allegedly breaking into a vacant house on West New Castle Street. A witness caught Kozar in the home carrying bags of suspected stolen items, court documents said, and called police.Officers a short time later nabbed the suspect on Wagner Avenue. He allegedly admitted to taking the property from the house, but believed the items had been abandoned.Kozar was arraigned on charges of burglary and theft, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.June 21 — Police filed felony and misdemeanor drug charges against Katrina N. Wise, 30, stemming from a June 15 call for a reported domestic dispute at her Wyle Avenue home.Officers investigating the dispute spotted traces of suspected marijuana and a suspicious bag near a couch. The bag, court documents said, contained 17 smaller bags of suspected marijuana.Wise later admitted the contraband was hers and claimed, a police affidavit said, that she was only trying to make "a few extra bucks" because she was "in a bad situation.Wise is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.
7:45 p.m. Saturday — Barri A. Wiggins, no age given, of Shelocta, Indiana County, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 422 at the Jefferson Street exit in Summit Township. Police said Wiggins also was cited for careless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, a lane violation and not wearing a seat belt.2:43 p.m. Saturday — Fred P. Hoffman, 62, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of DUI after a minor crash at Routes 173 and 8 in Brady Township. Police said Hoffman also was cited for careless driving, driving at an unsafe speed, a lane violation and not wearing a seat belt.12:30 a.m. Saturday — Brian S. Logue, 38, of Chicora was arrested for allegedly assaulting 36-year-old Lisa Ann Logue of Chicora during a domestic dispute at a Trimbur Road home in Donegal Township. Police said Logue struggled with troopers as he was being arrested.Logue, who is charged with simple assault, harassment and resisting arrest, later was placed in the Butler County Prison.Saturday — Seven people were arrested for DUI during a sobriety checkpoint on Herman Road in Summit Township. In all, 76 vehicles were stopped as part of the operation conducted by state police and the Butler County DUI Task Force.11:50 p.m. Friday — Clarence L. Dietrich, 45, of Portersville was arrested for suspicion of DUI at Wilson Road and Route 488 in Prospect.6:49 p.m. Friday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Barbara Briggs, 52, of Saxonburg struck the rear of a car on Route 356 near Darby Lane in Winfield Township. Police said Briggs was cited for following too closely to another vehicle. Earl W. Miller, 41, of Butler was driving the car.2:05 a.m. Friday — Daniel A. Hartzell, 23, of Cabot suffered unknown injuries when his car struck an embankment and rolled onto its roof on Route 8 near Kelly Road in Brady Township. Hartzell, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown out of the car and landed on the road.Debris from Hartzell's rolling car, meanwhile, struck a pickup truck as it approached the crash site. Police said Hartzell was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.1:05 a.m. Thursday — Crystal D. Brooks, 24, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of DUI at South Duffy and Williams roads in Butler Township.5:36 p.m. Wednesday — Cars driven by Karen L. Kurtz, 30, of Butler and Anne M. Mathewson, 51, of Kittanning collided on Route 422 near Schantz Road in Prospect. Mathewson, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Police said Kurtz was cited for making an improper turn.Wednesday — A vandal armed with a knife caused a combined $2,700 in damage to three vehicles at Brady Hills Estates in Brady Township. The vehicles were scratched by some kind of knife between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. Wednesday.Wednesday — A wallet with $4 was stolen overnight from a vehicle at Maple Manor in Brady Township.Tuesday — An unknown thief broke into an unlocked vehicle at Cal's Market on Route 19 in Portersville and stole unspecified items. The theft happened between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
12:30 a.m. Saturday — A Templeton man was arrested after allegedly assaulting two troopers called to a Wilkinson Road home in Pine Township for a reported domestic disputeThe suspect, 57-year-old Barry L. Anderson, spit at Trooper DuWayne Baird and pushed a wooden table at Trooper Joshua Black, police said. Anderson also is accused of taking a swing at both officers, hitting Baird in the right hand, and challenging the troopers to fight him.Anderson was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, simple assault and harassment, and placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $15,000 bail.12:05 p.m. Thursday — Rodger Thatch, 57, of Worthington was hurt when the car he was driving struck a guardrail and embankment at Old Route 422 and Deer Run Road in East Franklin Township. Police said Thatch, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries.
