Hannah Domaradzki of Butler was selected by Frank P. Cheeseman Post 393 of the American Legion Auxiliary to attend Keystone Girls State.The event will be held June 20 to 26 at Shippensburg University. Girls will study government on city, county and state levels.A junior at Slippery Rock University, she is the daughter of Jon and Sarah Domaradzki of Butler.———
Raymond Balkey of Butler recently became a member of Phi Sigma Theta National Honor Society at West Virginia University.Phi Sigma Theta is a national honor society dedicated to recognizing and rewarding academic achievement in undergraduates at institutions of higher learning. Balkey is the son of Kathleen and David Balkey of Butler.———
Kyle Hawk of Slippery Rock was selected for the Theater-by-the-Grove Freshman Talent Scholarship for the 2010-11 academic year at Indiana (Pa.) University.Hawk is the son of Stephen Hawk and the late Mechelle Hawk. He is a 2010 graduate of Slippery Rock High School.———

Timothy Neely of Zelienople received his official appointment to the United States Air Force Academy on Monday in a ceremony held at Butler Composite Squadron 712 headquarters, hangar C-1 at the Butler County Airport.USAFA Liaison Officer Lt. Colonel Richard Conwell presided.Neely joined the Civil Air Patrol Butler Composite Squadron 712 in November 2006. His achievements in the Civil Air Patrol include recieving the Billy Mitchell Award, CAP Solo Pilot Rating, Ground Team Member Level 3, Cadet Basic Encampment and Cadet Executive Officer.Neely also was a member of the Army Junior ROTC program at Seneca Valley High School.He will depart in June for the Air Force Academy.———
<B>Jeanna Smialek</B> of Valencia was awarded a Phillips Ambassadors scholarship for study in Asia. Smialek, a journalism and mass communication and international and area studies double major at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will study abroad in China during the fall semester.Smialek is a graduate of Mars High School.The Phillips Ambassadors is a scholarship program for UNC-Chapel Hill undergraduates designed to broaden awareness of Asia on and off campus. The scholarship combines an award for study in Asia with an academic course that puts the experience in greater global context and challenges students to share their experiences of Asia upon their return.———<B>Joseph Sadaka</B> of Butler County graduated from the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School. The school graduated 150 students from 43 counties in Pennsylvania.———<B>Frank Kowalkowski Jr. </B>of Butler was accepted to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie. He is a 2005 graduate of Butler High School and a 2009 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.While awaiting a seat in medical school, he has been employed by the UPMC Department of Surgery as a lab technician in the Thomas Starzl Organ Transplant Laboratory investigating organ anti-rejection drugs. He is the son Frank Sr. and Donna Kowalkowski of Butler.
