Butler Police8:06 a.m. Thursday — A 20-year-old woman faces a criminal charge after a 2-year-old boy was spotted chasing after a pit bull on city streets.Officers found the boy unharmed near the intersection of South Chestnut and West Birch streets. The child led police to where he was staying, an apartment building in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street.Police, however, were unable to get inside and waited for the boy's mother, who later pulled up in a vehicle. The 24-year-old Renfrew woman told an officer that she had left her son in the custody of Allyshia M. Shaffer, her sister-in-law, at Shaffer's apartment,Police said they got into Shaffer's apartment and found her sleeping in a bedroom, with another child. She said she didn't know the boy had left the apartment, according to a police report.Police said Shaffer faces a charge of child endangerment.
Butler Twp Police6:24 a.m. Thursday — Police discovered 16 mailboxes damaged on East Brady Street and Delwood Road. Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.1:10 p.m. Tuesday — Two students are accused of fighting at the Butler Area Vocational-Technical School. Police cited the students, both girls, for harassment.
