Brittany Goettler

Brittany Goettler of Butler accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. She will be honored this fall at an induction convocation on the campus of Robert Morris University, where she is enrolled in the nursing program. A 2008 graduate of Butler High School, she is the daughter of Daniel and Tracy Goettler of Butler.———

<B>Kenneth Bonus</B> of Butler was named an Outstanding Senior by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Clarion University.Bonus was recommended for the award for his success in the classroom and potential for a promising career in accounting. The award is given to one senior accounting major at each of the 80 participating Pennsylvania colleges and universities.Bonus will begin his accounting career at KPMG in Pittsburgh.———<BR></BR><BR></BR><B>Jessica Kummer</B> participated in the University of Findlay's Symposium for Scholarship and Creativity.A senior animal science major, Kummer presented "Temporal Shifts in the Functional Diversity of Normal Microflora Associated with Organically Raised Jersey Cows."Kummer is a 2006 graduate of Butler High School. Kummer is the daughter of Kathleen and Randal Kummer of Renfrew.———<BR></BR><BR></BR>

<B>Joseph Kasprzyk</B>, son of Joseph R. and Deborah J. Kasprzyk of Center Township, was awarded a Science To Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowship by the federal Environmental Protection Agency.Kasprzyk, a doctoral candidate in civil engineering at Penn State University, is a 2003 graduate of Butler High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 2007 and his master's degree in 2009, both from Penn State.Kasprzyk's project is titled "Balancing the Economic and Ecological Sustainability of Water Supply in the Susquehanna River Basin Under Climate Change." He is examining how groundwater supply and water management are vulnerable to climate change and increasing water demands in the Susquehanna Basin.He also was part of a research team that included members from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that examined the benefits and trade-offs associated with buying water using a mix of market instruments in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of southern Texas. A major focus of the research was to provide decision-makers with water planning models that illustrate how options, leases and permanent rights affect cost, surplus water and probability of water shortages.The research team reported its findings in the publication Water Resources Research.Created in 1995, the EPA's STAR program supports graduate students focusing on environmental studies. Since its inception, the program has awarded about 1,500 fellowships.Under a STAR fellowship, doctoral students can be supported for a maximum of three years.———<BR></BR><BR></BR><B>Jenna Luek</B> will receive the College Chemistry Award Monday at the annual awards dinner of the Society for Analytical Chemistry of Pittsburgh.Luek, a senior majoring in chemistry at Chatham University, will receive a monetary prize, framed certificate, a monetary award donated in her honor to the Chatham University Library and an engraved nameplate.A 2006 graduate of Seneca Valley High School, she is the daughter of Frank and Kathy Luek of Harmony.
