JACKSON TWP — Sluggish starts didn't stop the Seneca Valley boys lacrosse team from dominating the regular season.

The Raiders certainly weren't going to let one get in their way during a playoff game.

After leading Peters Township by a modest 4-3 score after one quarter, SV ran away with a 15-5 victory in a WPIAL Division I quarterfinal game Wednesday night.

SV (17-1) will face Franklin Regional, a 9-7 winner over North Allegheny, in a semifinal showdown next Wednesday at a time and site to be determined.

The Raiders received two first-quarter scores from Sean O'Rourke, and one each from David Gibbons and David Hall.

But the Indians (11-8) never let the Raiders gain more than a one-goal lead, scoring three times in less than seven minutes.

"We were a little jittery to begin with tonight, but we fought through it," said SV coach Peter Hoffman. "Every team we play it's a big game for them and they come in fired up to try and beat us. That's part of the reason for our slow starts this year."

Starting in the second quarter, the Indians were unable to keep up with SV's firepower as O'Rourke scored two more goals and Jake McAndrew added one to help the Raiders take a 7-4 lead into halftime.

"We come out strong and try to strike quickly. That's what we've tried to do all season," said Peters Township coach Mike McBride. "But our depth has been a problem and our defense tired out.

"The adjustments we made didn't work because we did not execute," he added.

SV outscored the Indians 6-1 in the third period to take a commanding 13-5 advantage.

O'Rourke, who leads the Raiders with 57 goals, tallied six Wednesday.

"Offensively, we controlled the ball and were able to pressure and force a lot of turnovers on defense," said the senior. "We just kept hustling tonight."

"(O'Rourke) was a key contributor at midfield for us the last couple of years," Hoffman said. "We moved him to attack this year and he's been scoring at a much higher pace."

SV goalie Brian Bohn made 10 saves, including seven of the last nine shots he faced.

"Brian bounced back well from that first quarter," said Hoffman. "He doesn't let a goal get to him. He's a resilient kid."

Also scoring for the Raiders were McAndrew (2), Gibbons (2), Sean Dailey (2), Sam Jarrett, Rob Fyock and Hall.

Connor Mannion scored three times for the Indians and Dan Milavec netted two goals.

PT goalie John Wawrose stopped 11 shots before being relieved late in the game by Rob Luzier, who had one save.

The Raiders didn't meet Franklin Regional during the regular season.

"We scrimmaged them and they beat us, but it's hard to tell anything from that," said Hoffman.
