Planets rally past Colts

Trailing Chartiers Valley by four runs entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Mars baseball team scored five runs to beat the Colts 8-7 Thursday.

The Planets' D.J. DeLucia and Luke Gruber tallied back-to-back run-scoring doubles to tie the game and win it, respectively.

Mars (10-8) received solo home runs from Blake Friday, Dylan Bear and Nick Comport.

• Jeff Revesz and Brian Murone each hit two-run homers as Grove City downed Sharon 9-4.

Jason Revesz had three hits and three RBI, and Randy Risch struck out seven in five innings for the Eagles (14-2, 7-0).

Butler's Matt Slamecka and Will Nesbitt won three matches Thursday at the WPIAL Doubles Tournament to advance to today's championship match at Keystone Oaks High School.The duo defeated teams from Norwin (10-0), Shady Side Academy (10-3) and another duo from Shady Side in the semifinals (6-4, 6-4).Slamecka and Nesbitt will face Fox Chapel's Shankar Rajupet and Brad Portnoy today for the title.Regardless of today's outcome, the Slamecka/Nesbitt tandem has qualified for the PIAA Doubles Tournament in Hershey later this month.Also competing for the Golden Tornado Thursday, Stefan Kemp and Zac McCafferty defeated a team from Bethel Park (10-5) before falling in the quarterfinals to a Mount Lebanon duo (10-3).

Amanda Huey scored four goals and Brianna Harvey had three as 11 Butler players scored in a 17-6 win over Taylor Allderdice.Maggie Dellen also had two goals for the Golden Tornado (17-6).
