CRANBERRY TWP — The Westinghouse Electric Co. has been awarded a contract by Engineering Center for dismantling a reactor for the Chooz A nuclear reactor in France.

The first of a three-reactor plant, Chooz A was shut down in 1991 after it operated for 24 years. It will become the first pressurized water reactor in France to be fully dismantled. Two other units there will remain operational.

The project is expected to take 6Z\x years to complete. Westinghouse will be the lead company in a consortium with Nuvia France.

Wexford — The Woodlands Foundation has hired Michael Sherry as director of marketing and development.His focus will be to grow the awareness of The Woodlands and to attract financial support for it.He has 22 years in broadcast advertising and marketing.Sherry lives in Cranberry Township with his wife Chris and two children.He is a member of St Ferdinand's Parish, a member of the Cranberry Sunrise Rotary, President of the Avery Field's Homeowners Association and President and Founder of The Miracle League of Southwestern PA.The Woodlands is a year-round facility offering interactive and therapeutic recreational activities for people with special needs and chronic illnesses. By partnering with more than 20 charitable organizations, the Woodlands annually serves more than 7,000 participants.Its programs include summer camps and weekend retreats that offer music, creative arts and sports activities.

• Shawn Sweeny of Sweeny Photography in Grove City was honored at the recent Professional Photographers of America State Convention in State College.Sweeny was awarded the trophy for best commercial/industrial print of 2010. He also received four ribbons in the portrait, illustrative and commercial/industrial categories.Sweeny Photography is on Route 208 between Grove City and the Prime Outlets.• The owner of the Goddard School in Cranberry Township received special recognition during the company's annual convention April 14 to 18 on Marco Island, Fla.Dina Speranza received a business award for maintaining the principles of The Goddard School.The school has a year-round program for children up to age 6.• Mark Percy of Butler, a package car driver for UPS, was recently recognized by the company for completing 25 years without an accident.Percy works out of the facility at 129 Oneida Valley Road, Summit Township. He provides service in the Herman, Fenelton, Cabot, Butler and East Butler areas.He was presented with a 25-year safe driving award.
