Jake Rupert, Jack Boros and Sean McDonald each picked up singles wins as the Knoch boys tennis team (10-5, 6-3) blanked Hopewell 5-0 Wednesday.

Butler dropped a 3-2 decision at Pine-Richland Wednesday afternoon, moving the Rams (5-3) to within a half game of the Golden Tornado (6-3) for second place in Section 1-AAAA.Butler hosts section leader North Allegheny (7-1) at 7 p.m. today.No details were available.New Castle 16, Mars 6 — Dylan Bear had a double, single and scored two runs, but Mars slipped to 6-8, 3-5 with the loss. Justin Fleo had three hits, scored three runs and had two RBI for New Castle.

Caitlin Baxter and Amanda Skidmore went 2-for-3 at the plate, but Butler lost at North Hills 5-3.Olivia Hortert doubled and Amber Steinheiser singled for Butler (7-5, 3-5).

Seneca Valley 10, North Allegheny 9 (OT) — The Raiders remained No 1 in Western Pennsylvania and No. 8 in the state after their section victory over the rival Tigers.Sam Jarrett, Jake McAndrew, Sean O'Rourke and Will Koontz each scored two goals while Andy Hickman and Sean Dailey had one each for Seneca Valley (11-0).Goalie Brian Bohn had 11 saves.Butler 12, Hampton 7— The Golden Tornado took the lead in the section with this win over the Talbots.Cody Conklin lead Butler (11-1, 6-0) with six goals, Cody Bachman had three goals and three assists, and Nathan Barthlow had two goals.Alex Hill made 19 saves.
