CHERRY TWP — Things could have gone a little smoother, but Moniteau coach Ross Martin wasn't too worried.

The Warriors rapped out 12 hits to back starting pitcher Jereme Ritts, but four errors behind him kept things interesting.

Nonetheless, Moniteau came away with a 7-2 KSAC baseball victory over Cranberry Friday.

The Berries stranded eight runners in the game, including two each in the third and seventh innings, with three in scoring position.

"I don't even think it was (Ritts') doing," Martin said, "but we made mistakes on routine plays. It will work itself out."

The Warriors' Heath Lominski, who went 4-for-4, led off the second inning with a double, then scored when Zach Wheeler lined an RBI single.

Cranberry had a chance to pull even in the third inning when, with one out, Tyler Lewis and Eric Beichner hit consecutive singles. But Ritts got Michael Orrvick to ground out, and, with runners in scoring position, induced Dave Cyphert to loft a fly out that ended the threat.

"That's been our M.O. to this point," said Berries coach Patrick Irwin, who saw his team strand five runners in the first four innings. "We've hit well enough to get runners into scoring position, but we've struggled in clutch situations."

When Jay Wiles had a two-run single in the home half of the third inning, the Warriors enjoyed a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, Moniteau put runners at second and third with no outs, but couldn't score.

Cranberry then mounted a charge that helped it score two runs in the fifth to pull close.

After two outs, Beichner reached on an error, then Orrvick had a double and Beichner was awarded home when the umpire claimed Warriors third baseman Aaron Shreve obstructed the runner's progress.

Cyphert beat out an infield single that scored Orrvick for a 3-2 score.

But Moniteau answered with a three-spot in the fifth inning — a Lominski run-scoring single and a big two-run single by Josh Stockert — giving Moniteau a four-run lead.

"The last four or five games, top to bottom, 1 though 9, everyone has been doing the job," Martin said. "We've had big hits. Josh Stockert with two outs has been big."

Lominski capped his perfect day with an RBI triple in the sixth inning to account for the game's final run.

Ritts pitched a complete game, tallying three strikeouts and no walks, and scattered seven hits along the way.

"His big thing is throwing strikes," said Martin. "It seems he's 0-1, 0-2 in the count and puts hitters at a disadvantage the rest of the at-bat."
