Knights cut down Blackhawk, 5-2

Marcus Cashell singled and homered in the Knoch baseball team's 5-2 road win over Blackhawk Tuesday.

The performance helped earn the win for Cullen Hinderliter, who gave up two runs on three hits in a complete-game effort.

Hinderliter also starred at the plate, collecting two singles, a double and driving in one run for the Knights (7-4, 4-1).

The defeat was Blackhawk's first Section 1-AAA loss of the season.

• Blake Friday singled, scored three runs and had two RBI, and teammate Andrew Rush singled, scored a run and drove in three as Mars crushed Deer Lakes 12-0 in five innings.

• Karns City erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to an 11-2 win over West Forest.

Zach Kepple singled twice and doubled for the Gremlins (4-3, 2-2).

Sophomore Cody Bachman tallied four goals and three assists as Butler crushed Allderdice 16-1.Cody Conklin recorded three goals and two assists, and Nathan Barthlow, Sam Cleary and Tyler Kotch scored two goals each for Butler (8-1, 4-0).

Sam Struss and Morgan Midkiff each scored four goals as Seneca Valley topped North Allegheny 12-7.Jen Cwik, Paige Corathers, Taylor Mayeda and Marla Shipton also scored for the Raiders (10-1, 4-1).Goalie Lauren Moran stopped 12 shots for SV.Hampton 9, Butler 8 — Butler received goals from seven different players, including two scores from Brynn Maxwell, in its overtime loss.Also scoring for the Tornado (2-5) were Amanda Huey, Kathryn Hitchan, Brittney Miller, Megan Kunst, Liz Manuel and Alyssa Olenick.Cara Moses tallied 17 saves for Butler.
