Maj. Allen Costanté Botacchi, U.S. Air Force Reserve, retired, 79, of Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster, Md., died Sunday at the Carroll Lutheran Village Health Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1930, in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Costanté and Ida Antonia Hoeft Botacchi.

He was the husband of Dolores Agnes McHugh Botacchi, his wife of 51 years.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a U.S Air Force pilot.

He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and received his master's degree in floriculture from the Pennsylvania State University.

He was a retired horticulturist, having worked for the Vaughn Seed Co., and the extension services of Penn State, including the Butler County Extension office and the University of Connecticut.

He was an active member of the Congregational churches where he had lived.

He created beautiful flower and vegetable gardens that nourished his family. He also enjoyed camping, smoking his pipe, music, spending time with his wife, daughters and dog, who he referred to as his harem, and ice fishing.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters and spouses, Anna Marie and Robert Sadler of Cumming, Ga., Priscilla and William Marbaker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Antoinette and William Chandler of Woodbine, Md.; grandchildren, Gwen and Grant Sadler, Rachel and Isabel Marbaker and Dana, Emily and Jessica Chandler.

Allen Costanté Botacchi, who died Sunday, March 14, 2010, will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster, Md. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Krug Chapel with Chaplain Jimmie Schwartz officiating.
