Jack Lucas, 78, of Seven Hills Road, Chicora, Concord Township, died early Tuesday morning at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mr. Lucas was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Bairdford. He was the son of the late George and Mary McMurdo Lucas.

Jack served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In his early years, he owned and operated a milk transport company and an automotive repair shop. He worked many years in the coal mining industry. Before retiring, he owned and operated his own semitruck, providing long-haul transports.

He enjoyed fishing, reading, working in his garage and his John Deere tractors. He especially loved spending time with his two grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marlene Goldner Lucas, who he married Dec. 28, 1957, in Unity; a daughter, Cindy Lucas Haggerty and her husband, Paul, of Ortonville, Mich.; two grandsons, 8-year-old Dylan Jack Haggerty and 6 -year-old Chase Michael Haggerty, also of Ortonville; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lucas was preceded in death by a brother, George R. Lucas.

<B>LUCAS</B> — Friends of Jack Lucas, who died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Road, Chicora. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Glenn Kohlhepp, a retired United Methodist pastor, officiating.
