Michael Joseph Petroski, 67, of Butler died Thursday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Aug. 16, 1942, in Butler, he was a son of the late Michael and Margaret (Palace) Petroski.

He was a graduate of Butler High School, where he was an honor student and played football for three years. He had played baseball for Lyndora, and enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping.

He was a painter for the Pullman Standard Car Co. in Butler for 17 years until it closed. Following that, he was a security guard for 15 years for Butler Memorial Hospital.

Michael was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the United States Navy.

Surviving are his wife, Nellie P. (Brown) Petroski, who he married July 6, 1993; one daughter, Carrie Marie Petroski of Saxonburg; one son, Scott Petroski of Butler; four grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Chrissy Smith of Butler and Michelle Mullins of Fombell; one stepson, Eugene Joseph Smith of Fombell; and one niece, Kris Sevic Harley of Pensacola, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Judith Ann Sevic Petroski.
