Tuesday — Police reported they filed criminal charges against a couple for leaving their children, ages 1, 2 and 4, unattended outside their East Locust Street home last week.Officers were called about 1:20 p.m. March 31 for a report of "very young" children playing in the street in the area of East Locust and Elm streets without supervision, a police report said.Police found John Tomko, 32, the children's father, sleeping in the house. The mother, Christina Cloherty, 33, was reportedly out shopping and returned home about 40 minutes later.Tomko and Cloherty face charges of child endangerment. The police report noted the Butler County Children and Youth Services agency took custody of the children.Tuesday — Police charged Matthew C. McCracken, 23, of Butler with bad checks stemming from a $103.86 check he earlier bounced at Friedman's Supermarket on West Brady Street.8:54 p.m. Monday — Andrew Codispot, 19, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his car struck another car head-on on West Penn Street. Codispot allegedly did not stop after the crash. But police said they found him after a short chase.7:32 p.m. March 31 — Michael Baker, 45, of Butler was hurt when an unidentified white sport utility vehicle struck the bicycle he was riding at West Jefferson and Chestnut streets. He told police a white woman was driving the SUV, which drove away west on West Jefferson Street.Police said Baker was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.Monday — Hope M. Lambing, 33, of Butler is accused of lying to police when she claimed her boyfriend assaulted her March 24. Police, following Lambing's allegations, arrested 34-year-old Greg Tippett of Braddock, Allegheny County, who was placed in Butler County Prison.Lambing, however, on Monday recanted the allegations and told police Tippett never assaulted her. She is charged with false reports to law enforcement authorities.5:19 p.m. March 31 — Toby Larimore, 31, of Karns City was arrested on charges he violated his ex-wife's protection-from-abuse order. The alleged victim, 27-year-old Shannon Winters of Butler, accused the defendant of following her in his car as she rode in a vehicle traveling in the city.Larimore was arraigned on a charge of indirect criminal contempt. Following arraignment, he was placed in Butler County Prison on $1,000 bail.
Saturday — A Mongoose brand bicycle was recovered in Memorial Park. The owner can claim the bike at the police station at 337 E. Pine St.10:35 p.m. Friday — Eric Wolf, 33, of Fairview, Erie County, was arrested on charges of stalking, harassment and trespass, stemming from prior incidents with a woman who lives on Pine Street in the borough.Wolf was arraigned on charges and placed in Mercer County Jail on $10,000 bail.March 8 — Someone broke into Advantage Auto Parts on Main Street and stole about $400. The burglary happened between 3:20 p.m. March 6 and 7:50 a.m. March 8. Anyone with any information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.
130 a.m. Tuesday — Lisa Rae Bruner, 45, of Mercer was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Blacktown Road and Route 258 in Springfield Township.March 26 — An unknown burglar stole about $240 in jewelry and caused more than $4,500 in damage in a break-in between 9 and 11:20 a.m. at a Barbour Road home in Worth Township, Mercer County.
Saturday — Police charged a Bruin couple with breaking into a neighbor's home and stealing two hutch cabinets valued at a combined $1,200.Michael T. Maleski, 53, and Joan M. Maleski, 50, allegedly took the property March 31 out of Judy Christy's house on Washington Street. Christy had moved out of the home a week earlier, according to court documents.The defendants told investigators they were friends with Christy and believed that when she moved out of the house, she left the cabinets there because she did not want them, a police affidavit said.The Maleskis denied breaking into Christy's house, telling police they found the door open.Both suspects are charged with burglary, trespass, theft and receiving stolen property.
