Kenneth 'Red' Altemus

Kenneth Allen "Red" Altemus, 82, of Zelienople, a beloved husband, father, friend and cement mixer driver was sadly welcomed into the arms of our Lord on Friday.

Born on June 23, 1927, in Blairsville, he was the son of the late Edgar and Alice (Forythe) Altemus.

Red was raised from the age of 2 at the Orphans Home and Farm School in Zelienople.

He was in the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country during World War II.

Red was the proud co-owner and operator of Frankenstein Builders Supply, a member of the English Lutheran Church, and the Harmony Lodge 429 & Shrine.

Red lived his life for his family. The most important thing to him was being with his family. He was a kind man who loved talking and being with people. He enjoyed blowing his cement mixer air horn at people when they would see him. Red had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed living and was always happy and smiling. He will continue to be remembered by his family as a loving, thoughtful man who could teach every human being a lesson on how life should be lived.

Red is survived by his wife Carolyn (Frankenstein), who he met at the age of 14 and married Oct. 16, 1954. They were married for 55 years.

He was the loving father of LuAnn and her husband Michael of Zelienople and Ken Altemus of Zelienople. He is survived by a brother, Eugene and his wife Patty Altemus of Youngstown, a sister, Virginia O'Neil of Blairsville, and he was the proud grandfather of Courtney.
