Mary H. Hillwig

Mary H. Hillwig, 89, of Chicora died at 12:02 a.m. Saturday at Sugarcreek Rest in Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.

The former Mary H. Corle was born in East Brady on Dec. 8, 1920.

She was the valedictorian of the 1938 Class of East Brady High School.

She was married on Feb. 1, 1939, to Elton E. Hillwig, who preceded her in death on Feb. 20, 1992.

Mrs. Hillwig was a long time active member of the Chicora United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and belonged to the Cheerful Workers Sunday School Class.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, reading and crocheting. She especially enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving is a daughter, Janet Earley of Erie. Also surviving are five grandchildren and their spouses, Leslie A. Kelly and her husband, George, of Chicora; Chris Hillwig and his wife, Jodi, of Sydney, Australia; Jason C. Hillwig and his wife, Jen, of Cranberry Township; M. Lisa Hildreth and her husband, Jim, of Erie, and Matthew Earley, U.S.N., and his wife, Janice, of Erie. Ten great-grandchildren survive as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins and three sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by a son, Leslie C. Hillwig, who died Dec. 12, 1999; a sister, Helen Robinson, and a brother, Bill Corle.

<B>HILLWIG</B> — Friends of Mary H. Hillwig, who died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Sunday at the <B>Hile Funeral Home</B>, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora. Funeral services will be at noon Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Glea L. Foster, pastor of the Chicora United Methodist Church, officiating.
