Boilermakers topple host Buckeyes
COLUMBUS, Ohio — JaJuan Johnson scored 24 points and consistently hit big shots to build the lead and to keep No. 9 Ohio State at bay in No. 4 Purdue's 60-57 victory Wednesday night.
With the victory, the Boilermakers (22-3, 10-3) tightened the race for first place in the Big Ten with 11th-ranked Michigan State (21-6, 11-3).
E'Twaun Moore had 15 points and Keaton Grant had 13 off the bench for Purdue.
Evan Turner had 29 points, William Buford 11 and Jon Diebler 10 for Ohio State (20-7, 10-4).
Diebler had a chance to tie the game, but his last-second 3-pointer clanked off the back of the rim.
No. 6 Duke 81, Miami 74
At Coral Gables, Fla., Kyle Singler scored 22 points and Duke used smothering defense to rally from a 12-point halftime deficit and beat Miami.
Jon Scheyer missed his first nine shots and Nolan Smith missed his first six for the Blue Devils, who shot 31 percent in the opening half to fall behind 37-25. But 22 turnovers doomed the Hurricanes, who attempted only 45 shots to 60 for the Blue Devils.
No. 7 Kansas State 91, Nebraska 87
At Manhattan, Kan., Denis Clemente scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half, including a clinching bucket in the final seconds, and Kansas State (21-4, 8-3 Big 12) rallied from two big deficits to beat last-place Nebraska.
No. 8 West Virginia 88, Providence 74
At Providence, R.I., Devin Ebanks scored 21 points and West Virginia used its big height advantage to dominate inside and break a two-game losing streak with a win over Providence.
The Mountaineers took a 25-4 lead by scoring 23 straight points, but Providence cut that to 46-28 at halftime and 48-42 with a 14-2 really to open the second half. West Virginia (20-5, 9-4) then recovered by scoring the next nine points and stayed in front by at least 10 the rest of the way.

At Albuquerque, N.M. Darington Hobson had 20 points and 10 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season, and New Mexico's Steve Alford won his 300th game as a Division I coach as the Lobos beat Wyoming.
Missouri 82, No. 15 Texas 77
At Columbia, Mo., Kim English scored 18 points and Keith Ramsey added 12 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double as Missouri beat Texas.
Jordan Hamilton led the Longhorns (20-6, 6-5) with 24 points off the bench and Damion James added 18 as the team ranked No. 1 for two weeks in mid-January lost for the sixth time in nine games and fell into a sixth-place tie in the Big 12.
Missouri (19-7, 7-4) raced to an 8-0 lead in the first two minutes as Texas turned the ball over on its first three possessions.

At Fort Collins, Colo., Jimmer Fredette scored 36 points as BYU (24-3, 9-2) pounded the Rams (15-10, 6-5).
No. 18 Butler 73, Illinois-Chicago 55
At Indianapolis, Matt Howard scored 17 points and Ronald Nored added a career-high 16 leading the Bulldogs past Illinois-Chicago for Butler's 16th straight win. The Bulldogs (24-4, 17-0) have matched Murray State for the nation's longest winning streak and broken the school record for consecutive victories.
No. 20 Tennessee 69, Georgia 60
At Knoxville, Tenn., Wayne Chism tallied 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Volunteers (19-6, 7-4).
The Bulldogs (11-13, 3-8) used a strong inside presence to beat Tennessee 78-63 on Jan. 23, but it was the Vols who took command of the paint this time, scoring 46 inside.
No. 21 Temple 73, St. Bonaventure 55
At St. Bonaventure, N.Y., Ramone Moore scored 11 of his 18 points in the first half to lead Temple past St. Bonaventure.
Juan Fernandez scored 15 points and Ryan Brooks had all 13 point in the second half for the Owls (21-5, 9-2).
No. 25 Richmond 84, Fordham 56
At Richmond, Va., Kevin Anderson scored 17 of his 19 points in a runaway first half and Richmond kept Fordham winless in the Atlantic 10.
The Spiders (21-6, 10-2) led 50-28 at halftime and ended any hopes the Rams had of making a game of it with a 15-2 run early in the second half.
Fordham (2-22, 0-12) lost its 17th game in row.
