Jack L. Ward, 91, of Sarver passed away peacefully Friday in his home.

Jack was born May 8, 1918, in Baltimore and was raised in Gaithersburg, Md. He was the son of the late John E. and Margaret V. (Armstrong) Ward.

Jack worked at the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. as a maintenance supervisor for 44 years, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department, a social member of the Sarver Vets Club, the Freeport Odd Fellows and the Freeport Eagles.

Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially spending time at the camp he built with his sons on the Mahoning Creek in Armstrong County. He also was an accomplished gardener who took great pride in his prized tomatoes and corn.

Mr. Ward is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Helen J. (Welsh) Ward; his three sons, James O. (Pamela) Ward of Memphis, Tenn., John R. (Candace) Ward of Renfrew and Jeffrey P. (Penny) Ward of Buffalo Township; and three daughters, Kathleen (Albert) Zigo of Freeport, Judith A Ward (Frank Dorso) of California and Christine A. Ward of Shadyside. Jack also is survived by his 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his youngest son, S. Daniel Ward of Chicago, who passed away earlier this year.

<B>WARD</B> — Family and friends of Jack L. Ward, who died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, are being received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the <B>Redmond Funeral Home</B>, 524 High St., Freeport. A parting prayer service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at the St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Cabot. Burial will be held at the St. Mary Cemetery in Freeport.The St. Joseph Bereavement Ministry will hold a prayer service at 6 p.m. today in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jack's name to the Cabot United Methodist Food Bank, P.O.
