William R. McClafferty
William R. "Squire" McClafferty, 84, of Butler died Friday evening at his home.
Born Aug. 31, 1925, in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late William and Mary Jackson McClafferty.
He formerly owned and operated pizza shops in Sharpsburg and in Butler. He also formerly owned A Notary in Butler.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Matilda Salvaggio McClafferty, to whom he was married for 53 years; two sons, William McClafferty of Pittsburgh and Patrick McClafferty of Pittsburgh; a sister, Mrs. Katherine Gath of Florida; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

"Squire" McClafferty, who died Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, with the Rev. Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Saint Michael's Cemetery.The Bereavement Group of Saint Michael the Archangel Parish will meet at the funeral home at 3 p.m. today to conduct a Scriptural Wake Service.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the VFW Post 249 of Butler and the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora.Information is available at www.martinfh.net.
