The Govans in 1959

Frank and Janice Govan of Valencia celebrated 50 years of marriage with a surprise party given by their children at Valencia United Methodist Church.

Govan married the former Janice Skander on Nov. 20, 1959, at a chapel in Punxsutawney.

They have four children, Frank Govan of Mountaintop, Pa., Dale Govan of Butler, John Govan of Valencia and Mike Govan of Wyoming.

They also have seven grandchildren.

Mr. Govan is retired from the Pine Richland School District, where he worked as a janitor. He is a member of the John E. Mair Lodge and the Valencia Volunteer Fire Department.Mrs. Govan is a homemaker. She is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mars Chapter. The Govans are members of Valencia United Methodist Church.
