Monday — Police filed theft-related charges against Tiffany Rose Mullen, 21, of Butler, who is accused of taking a $300 hair straightener from a woman's apartment on West North Street. Mullen also allegedly took three DVDs in the Sept. 15 theft. She is charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

6 a.m. Monday — A fire hydrant and 3-foot post were damaged in a hit-and-run crash at West Main and Jack streets.Police later tracked down the driver, Donald R Taylor, 45, of Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, whose tractor-trailer caused the damage. He was cited for failing to provide police information about the accident.Friday — Police filed trespass charges against Jordan Ruddy, 22, of Grove City stemming from an incident Sept. 12 when he allegedly broke into a woman's Cedar Avenue home.Ruddy awakened the woman, a police report said, and he had to be asked several times to leave before he finally did.5:20 p.m. Sept. 22 — A 15-year old girl is accused of attacking a 17-year-old girl near a West Main Street business. Police later charged the suspect with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Sunday — A 20-year-old Center Township man reported an identity theft case in which more than $400 was electronically removed from his checking account and sent overseas between May 6 and Sept. 29.Police report the victim knew the last theft would be on Tuesday because Citizens Bank detected the last transactions would occur then, but could not stop the process.8:53 a.m. Sept. 18 — A pickup truck driven by Diane L. Lemanski, 45, of Franklin, Venango County, struck a deer on Interstate 79 near Little Creek Road in Jackson Township.

6:05 p.m. Monday — A Butler County man working at a Shenago Township juvenile detention center was attacked by one of the detainees.The suspect, a boy who police did not identify, allegedly punched Justin R. Barto, 27, of Cranberry Township in the head and neck during the altercation at the Youth Development Center. Police said the boy became angry after he was disciplined and ordered back to his room. He faces a felony assault charge in juvenile court.3:54 a.m. Sunday — Two burglars wearing Halloween masks stole money and nearly three dozen cartons of cigarettes from the Tic Toc Food Mart on Route 65 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.The unknown suspects — two males, one with a green mask and the other with a red one — broke into the store after pushing in an exhaust fan in back of the building.The pair kicked open a door and ransacked an office, stealing 33 cartons of cigarettes valued at $1,715 and taking $447. The store sustained about $800 in damage.11:45 p.m. Sept. 24 — Douglas S. Haswell, 44, of Ellwood City was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his pickup crashed and rolled onto its side on Center Church Road near Copper Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.
