Samantha Barley of Valencia was selected this fall as a McDonough Scholar at Marietta College.The McDonough Leadership Program helps students gain a deeper understanding of leadership and practice their leadership skills.Barley came to campus the week before classes began to participate in the five-day EXCEL (Experience Civic Engagement and Leadership) Workshop.Barley will take leadership classes and participate in community service projects including Make a Difference Day in October.Barley will have the chance to travel as part of the McDonough Leadership Study Abroad, pursue a variety of experiential activities and attend leadership conferences.The daughter of Dale and Jeanette Barley of Valencia, she is a graduate of Mars High School.———

Michael Sybert of Middlesex Township was recognized as a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society chapter at Penn State University.The group recognizes scholastic achievement and invites students in the top 15 percent of their class.Sybert, a sophomore biology major at Penn State, is a 2008 graduate of Mars High School. He is the son of Donna and Steven Sybert of Middlesex Township.———

Emily Heibling of Zelienople was accepted for admission to Saint Vincent College for the fall semester.The daughter of John and Janet Heibling, she is a graduate of Quigley Catholic High School.———

Vanessa Mohn of Sarver enrolled in a Master of Arts degree program in dance and movement therapy at Antioch University New England.She earned her bachelor's degree at Lake Erie College.———

Susan Francino of Renfrew was named to the United States Achievement Academy's Who's Who Among All American Scholars and Who's Who In Band. She was nominated by her teachers.Francino is a junior at Seneca Valley High School, where she is a 4.0 student and plays the oboe in the SVHS wind ensemble. She studies ballet at the Wexford Dance Academy.She is the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Francino of Renfrew.
