Castor

Albert Cecil Castor, 87, of Kilgore, Gregg County, Texas, formerly of Grove City, died Friday morning at the The Willows of Kilgore, Texas.

Born in West Liberty, July 17, 1922, he was the son of Joseph Albert Castor and Nellie Belle Steele.

He married Betty Leota Kurten on July 17, 1942. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2005.

He was a retired retail store manager from Western Auto sales in Lake Charles, La.

He was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church, where he served on many church-related committees, including being chairman of building committee, which saw the planning and installation of a full-service elevator for the church, and the trustees. He also served as a lay speaker and assistant Sunday school teacher.

Albert was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the European Theatre of Operations during World War II.

Surviving are two sons, David E. and his wife, Kay, Castor of Harrisville and Larry W. Castor of Kilgore, Texas; a sister, Ella Hoover and her husband, "Bud" of Harrisville; two sisters-in-law, Jean Stoughton and her husband, Andy, of Harrisville and Mondora Kurten of Sugartown, La.; four grandchildren, Eric D. Castor of Fairfax, Va., Kristin M. Castor of Harrisville, Dustin L. Castor of Grove City and Samantha N. Castor of Grove City.

In addition to his parents and loving wife, Betty, he was preceded in death by two sons, Gary and Scott; two brothers, James and Jay; and five sisters, Mildred Vogan, Florence Vogan, Alice Castor, Blanche Castor and Vera Cameron.

<B>CASTOR</B> — Visitation for Albert Cecil Castor, who died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, Slippery Rock. Visitation also will be from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Harrisville United Methodist Church, 301 S. Main St., Harrisville. The Rev. William E. Hastings, pastor of the Harrisville United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Willard Morse, retired pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Slippery Rock Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be given to the building fund of the Harrisville United Methodist Church.The family wishes to thank The Willows and Life Care Hospice for the compassionate care provided.
