Daniel Warren Strader
Daniel Warren Strader, 89, of Slippery Rock Township died Sunday afternoon at the Sharon Regional Health System.
Born in Orlando, Braxton County, W.Va., June 25, 1920, he was the son of Okey Lawrence Strader and Mary Posey Strader.
He married Mary Agnes Duerling on Aug. 31, 1943. She died Oct. 27, 1993.
Mr. Strader retired from U.S. Steel, having worked as a maintenance electrician at the Ellwood City plant. He also was a self-employed electrician and plumber.
He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Slippery Rock.
He enjoyed helping his family and friends, outdoor gardening, reading, mechanics, hunting and fishing and had a passion for cooking and canning. He was very knowledgeable about growing herbs and sharing information regarding home and herbal remedies.
Surviving are two sons, Larry D. Strader of Bel Air, Md., and Kenneth L. "Les" Strader and his wife, Joann, of Greenville; four sisters, Madge Brown of Burnsville, W.Va., Mary Riffle and her husband, Freeman, of Youngstown, Ohio, Dora Childers and her husband, Harold, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, and Deignese Crabbe and her husband, Neil, of Columbus; five grandchildren, Kimberly Bromley, Rodney Strader, Tracy Coon and her husband, Richard, Douglas Strader and his wife, Theresa and Kenneth Strader Jr.; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ronald, Harry and Frank Strader.
<B>STRADER</B> — Friends of Daniel Warren Strader, who died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. A prayer service will be observed at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. Michael Chapel at the St. Michael Cemetery, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Paul Schill, pastor in residence, of the St. Michael Church, Greenville, officiating. Interment will be at the St. Michael Cemetery, Greenville.
