The Butler Health System Auxiliary awarded $1,000 scholarships on June 18 to the following students:
Alaina Burns of Chicora, who will study pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh. She is the daughter of John and Elaine Burns of Chicora.
Victoria Green of Butler, who is enrolled in the dental hygiene program at the University of Pittsburgh. She is the daughter of Dan and Mary Anne Green of Butler.
Heather Long of Fenelton, who will begin the nursing program at Butler County Community College this fall. She has been a surgical technologist at Butler Health System for the past nine years.
Katlyn Monday of Butler, who will study nursing at the Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing. She is a 2009 graduate of Butler High School. She is the daughter of Chris and Barb Monday of Butler.
Sarah Pierotti of Butler, who will enroll in the University of Pittsburgh Honors College this fall in hopes of becoming a doctor. She is the daughter of the Rev. Tom and Lynn Pierotti.
Kiersten Williams of Butler, who will enroll in the pharmacy program at the University of Pittsburgh this fall. She is the daughter of John and Kathryn Williams of Butler.———
Salvatore Braun of Butler was accepted to the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville.Braun is a 2009 graduate of Butler High School.His activities included varsity track, Thespians and the Butler Golden Tornado marching band.Braun plans to begin his pre-professional studies in dentistry. He is the son of Eric and Nancy Jo Braun of Butler.———
<B>Cody Jones</B> of West Sunbury was accepted into the Doctor of Philosophy program in the department of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.He is currently completing his graduate degree in civil and geotechnical engineering at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute in Oslo, Norway.Jones is a graduate of Moniteau High School and Penn State University. He is the son of Bruce and Karen Jones of West Sunbury.———<B>Amber Elder</B> of Sarver was accepted for admission to Saint Vincent College, where she will study marketing and finance.Elder is a 2009 graduate of Freeport High School, where she was a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students, Student Council president, stock market investing club and a Children's Hospital volunteer.She is the daughter of Steve and Tracy Kelly of Sarver.———<B>Michael Simmons</B> of West Sunbury was honored with three awards from Gannon University's theater program.He received awards for Rookie of the Year, Best Supporting Actor, and "Attached at the Hip" with fellow theater student Nicole Dohoda.A graduate of Moniteau High School, Simmons recently completed his freshman year as a theater and prelaw major at Gannon. He is the son of Robert and Marry Simmons of West Sunbury.
<B>Amanda Lynn</B> of Butler received a full scholarship to attend Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week 2009 from Sunday to July 11 at Lycoming College in Williamsport.The program gives students an inside look at the private enterprise system and how the free market functions.Lynn is a junior at Knoch High School and the daughter of Donald and Diane Lynn of Butler.———<B>Nikki Bruner</B> of Butler won a $3,000 Allegheny Energy scholarship for scholastic achievement.The award is given to children of employees and retires of Allegheny Energy based on SAT scores and class rankings.Bruner is a 2009 graduate of Butler High School, where her activities included the rifle team, National Honor Society and Model United Nations.Bruner will study business and hospitality management at Boston University.She is the daughter of David and Cathleen Bruner of Butler.
