Monnie 50th Anniversary
Edward and Ruth Monnie of Butler will celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. May 24 at their home. They also celebrated with a family dinner hosted by their children at Michael Restaurant.
Monnie married the former Ruth Stoops on May 21, 1959, at Centre Street Methodist Church in Cumberland, Md.
They have three children, Melissa Olen of Butler, Marcia Connell of Slippery Rock and Mark Monnie of Renfrew.
They also have five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Monnie is retired from working for 38 years for Armco. He enjoys genealogy, his computer and gardening.
Mrs. Monnie, as a homemaker, volunteers for Connoquenessing Meals on Wheels. She has served on the Mars Home for Youth board, belonged to the Federated Woman's Clubs, and was a Boy and Girl Scout leader. She belongs to T.O.P.S. and the Crimson Chapeau Cuties Red Hat Society.
The Monnies enjoy RV travel and spending winters in Lake Placid, Fla. They belong to Meridian United Presbyterian Church where Mr. Monnie is an elder, the financial secretary and is a former trustee. Mrs. Monnie also is a former trustee.
