2:33 a.m. Sunday Police are investigating a pair of fires deliberately set over the weekend. The first was set on the second-floor landing of 179 N. Elm St. at 1:17 a.m. Saturday, and the second was set on the ground floor stairway of 148 N. Monroe St. at 2:33 a.m. Sunday. Both fires caused moderate damage. Both buildings have tenants, but no one was injured in either incident. Anyone with information should call police at 724-287-77431:20 a.m. Sunday Someone broke into the press box at Father Marinaro Park, smashing the deadbolt on its door. It is unknown if anything was taken.11:20 p.m. Saturday Shawn Donovan Wooster, 37, of Butler was charged with simple assault after he allegedly tackled and choked his sister, Nichole R. Yon, 38, of Butler, along West Cunningham Street following an argument at a bar.7:50 a.m. Saturday Clarence M. Rosenberger, 48, of Butler was charged with criminal trespass after he was allegedly discovered looking into vehicle windows at 418 Hazel Ave., where there are signs forbidding trespassing.
4:27 p.m. Friday A car driven by Dylan McAnallen, 17, of West Sunbury struck the rear of a car driven by Cortnee Garvin, 21, of Chicora that was stopped at a red light on New Castle Road. Garvin had minor injuries.4:18 p.m. April 15 Ryan Williams, 30, of Slippery Rock was charged with criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and careless driving after the pickup truck he was driving went over two curbs and tore up the grass at the Butler Crossing construction site. Williams then allegedly threatened a construction worker with a flashlight.
1:01 a.m. Sunday A pickup truck driven by Wendel Callender, 45, of New Castle drove up an embankment off Callensburg Road in Toby Township and rolled onto its side. Callender, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries. He fled before police arrived. Callender was found in a wooded area about one mile from the scene. He was taken to Clarion Hospital for treatment and then arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
7 a.m. Monday Police are investigating multiple vehicle break-ins along Chicora and East Brandon roads, Grossman and Water Tower lanes, and Linwood Drive in Summit and Oakland townships. The suspects entered unlocked vehicles and took money, stereos, CDs, cameras and other items. Any one with information should call police at 724-284-8100.2 p.m. Saturday Someone tried to take two Magellan portable GPS units from the Sears store in Clearview Mall in Center Township. The suspect was a black man wearing a light green shirt and khaki pants. Any one with information should call police at 724-284-8100.
