Nathan Capello of Slippery Rock was a member of Westminster College's four-person Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team that earned first place in the inaugural Duel in the Dumpster competition April 2 to 4 at the University of Arizona in Tucson.The competition was the finale of the University of Arizona's annual Global Retailing Conference and was sponsored by TerraCycle.The competition required the design of a product using only recycled materials. To accompany the design, teams developed a production and inventory plan, a complete marketing plan, and a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis in a four-page report.The Westminster team designed an automatically refilling pet water bowl. The team's PowerPoint presentation included photographs and videos and incorporated some of the concepts learned from conference speakers.As the winning team, the Westminster group will assist TerraCycle in the final design of the product and in determining its marketability.Capello is a son of Robert and Karla Capello of Slippery Rock and a graduate of Slippery Rock High School.

Kenneth Bonus of Butler was recently invited to join the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society.He is a student at Clarion University.

Amy Matchett, both of Butler, were inducted into Thiel College's chapter of the Lambda Sigma Society, the national honor society for sophomores.

Bradley Duke of Butler, a senior physician assistant major at Saint Francis University, was named a finalist for the Mr. and Miss Frankie award for 2009.The Mr. and Miss Frankie Awards are presented annually to the outstanding male and female student of the senior class. The criteria for nomination includes scholastic achievement, commitment to Franciscan values, volunteer service to the university and community, personal character and demeanor, and diverse membership and leadership in campus activities.

Martha Kriley of Renfrew was recently tapped for membership in Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Elizabeth Keasey of Butler recently received the Evan Pugh Scholar Award at Penn State University Schreyer Honors College. In 2007, she also received the President's Freshman Award, and in 2008, the President Sparks Award.She also was selected by a committee of Italian instructors and professors to receive a Josephine Rhea Award for Excellence in Italian Studies for 2008-09. The award is given to a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in Italian courses who has exhibited outstanding achievement in the language.Elizabeth is pursuing a double minor in international business and the legal environment of business and is the daughter of Ashley and Rosemary Keasey of Butler.

Maura Keasey received the President's Freshman Award at Penn State University Schreyer Honors College.She is an elementary education major and is the daughter of Ashley and Rosemary Keasey of Butler.

Jessica Watson of Harmony received the Robert D. and Marjorie Ingmand, the Harold A. Miekle, and the Judith M. Lane Endowed Scholarships at Ashland University in Ohio. She is the daughter of Troy and Cynthia Watson and is majoring in marketing.
