2 from BC3 win Pa. honors

BUTLER TWP Butler County Community College named students Michelle Dufford and Robin Stahlman to the 2009 All-Pennsylvania Academic Team sponsored by the Pennsylvania Commission of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.

Dufford and Stahlman were recognized for their academic success and community involvement at the Awards Banquet March 30 in Harrisburg.

After studying at BC3, Dufford plans to transfer to Indiana (Pa.) University for secondary education. She is a member of the Writer's Club and contributes to the college's art and literacy magazine and to the student newspaper. She also participates in charity events including the March of Dimes where she served as team leader.

Stahlman plans to pursue a degree in middle school education from Slippery Rock University. She has been a paraprofessional for the Slippery Rock School District for 12 years, working with learning support. She is active in Phi Theta Kappa and has been named to both the president's and the dean's lists. She also is active in the community, serving as vice president of the support staff union and is a member of Scout Troop 310.

As members of the team, both students are eligible for a special tuition scholarship to any of the state universities.
