And then there were 4

Michigan State's Goran Suton takes a shot but it will be his rebounding that will carry the Spartans past UConn Saturday in their national semifinal.
Here's how the remaining teams match up in semifinals

Here's a capsule look at the teams who will play in Saturday's NCAA basketball semifinals in Detroit:

Connecticut (31-4) vs. Michigan State (30-6)How they got there: UConn was an at-large team in the West. Beat Chattanooga (103-47), Texas A&M (92-66), Purdue (72-60), Missouri (82-75). MSU was an at-large team in the Midwest. Beat Robert Morris (77-62), USC (74-69), Kansas (67-62), Louisville (64-57).

The pick: Spartans

Why they'll win: Rebounding and depth

The lowdown: UConn's Hasheem Thabeet is the best all-around inside player in the game, but he's going up against a program that specializes on banging in the interior. The Spartans have outrebounded 23 of their last 24 opponents and have their singular match for Thabeet in 6-foot-10 Goran Suton, the first Spartan, oddly enough, to win the Big Ten rebounding title.Michigan State has strength at every position on the floor and with Kalin Lucas (Big Ten Player of the Year) and Travis Walton (Defensive Player of the Year) in the backcourt, it can counter every UConn strength. Most justifiably pick UConn. But with the matchups all but even, the enthusiasm brought by the "home crowd" could tip the scales.

How they got there: UNC was an at-large team in the South. Beat Radford (101-58), LSU (84-70), Gonzaga (98-77), Oklahoma (72-60). Villanova was an at-large team in the East. Beat American (80-67), UCLA (89-69), Duke (77-54), Pittsburgh (78-76).The pick: Tar HeelsWhy they'll win: Point guard Ty LawsonThe lowdown: Argue that Lawson is no better than Villanova's Scottie Reynolds, whose dramatic driving layup against Pitt got the Wildcats to Detroit, but these two players make up the most interesting matchup Saturday. Lawson is the most dynamic player of the tournament after his ACC Player of the Year season. He pushes a relentless offensive attack that matches Villanova's style and quickness. He also personifies a we're-gonna-get-this-done attitude that separates the Tar Heels from the pack.Plus there's Tyler Hansbrough, Danny Green, a lack of turnovers and an impressive efficiency from the free-throw line.Villanova plays the best defense of any of the last four teams standing. There's just too much for the Wildcats to defend this time. This could be the best game of the Final Four.

North Carolina guard Ty Lawson will help the Tar Heels end Villanova's run through the NCAA tournament Saturday in the other semifinal in Detroit.
