Katie Conlon

Katie Conlon, a freshman at Knoch High School, was recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted students sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. She was included in the program because of her performance on the ACT test.Grove City College awarded her a three credit scholarship for the second year in a row.Conlon will also represent her school at the People to People Leadership Summit in June at Columbia University in New York. She was nominated by the faculty at Knoch.She is the daughter of Ray and Nance Conlon of Renfrew.—-Penn State Erie, The Behrend College students

Danielle Zarnick of Butler spent March 8 to 13 in Gulfport, Miss.The purpose of the trip was part of the school's alternative spring break program to help residents clean up and rebuild after Hurricane Katrina and the other natural disasters that have affected the area.—-

Stefanie Cumberledge of Evans City, a Westminster College student, received travel and presentation grants from Westminster's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to present her research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research April 16 through 18 in LaCrosse, Wis.Cumberledge, a junior physics major, is a daughter of Robert and E. Jane Cumberledge of Evans City and a graduate of Butler High School. She will present "Liquid Drop Collisions."—-

William "Mike" Kochemba, a senior Westminster College chemistry major, received travel and presentation grants from Westminster's Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to present his research at the American Chemical Society national meeting March 22 to 26 in Salt Lake City.The research was conducted under the supervision of Peter Smith, Westminster associate professor of chemistry.Kochemba is a son of Brenda Kochemba-Heck and Chris Heck of Grove City and a graduate of Grove City High School.He will present "Synthesizing and Characterizing Lanthanide Complexes Containing Tripodal Schiff-Base Ligands."
