Winnifred Ritter
Winnifred Ritter, 88, of Chicora, formerly of Wilkinsburg and Edgewood in Pittsburgh, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday in the Chicora Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 27, 1920, in Rochester, N.Y.
Prior to her marriage, she worked at Taylor Instruments in Rochester, now known as ABB Kent Taylor Division, where she was a secretary for several years. The company made temperature and control instruments for boilers. She then worked 20 years for the First Presbyterian Church in Wilkinsburg and Edgewood.
She was a member of the Wilkinsburg Women's Club and the Mifflin Avenue United Methodist Church in Pittsburgh. She was active in the Women's Circle of the church. She was the food coordinator for the Pittsburgh Banjo Club and the Pittsburgh Men's Garden Club.
Surviving are her husband, Paul R. Ritter M.D., whom she married in 1952; a son, Roy P. Ritter of Chicora; a daughter, Ruth E. Ritter and her husband, Bruce Merritt, of San Jose, Calif.; a granddaughter, Madeline Merritt; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Randolph, who died in 1970.

A memorial service for Winnifred Ritter, who died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Chicora Medical Center, 160 Medical Center Road, Chicora, with Rev. Ronald Fleming, pastor of the Mifflin Avenue United Methodist Church of Pittsburgh, officiating.
