Alta Mae Rodgers, 94, formerly Coylesville, Fenelton, died Wednesday evening at the St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars, where she had been a resident for four years.

She was born in Coylesville, at the family home, Aug. 17, 1914, a daughter of the late John A. and Margaret Lydia Elkin Fennell.

A homemaker, Mrs. Rodgers was a 1932 graduate of Butler High School. Following graduation, she had worked for the F.W. Woolworth Co. store. In later years, she had worked at the Clearfield Township School in food service.

She enjoyed cooking and baking, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.

She had been a former member of the Fenelton Methodist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Sherman and her husband, James F. Sherman, of Butler; two grandchildren, Laurie (Mrs. Matthew T.) Jones and Daniel J. Sherman, both of Butler; and three great-grandchildren, Zachery Thomas Jones, Patrick James Jones and Emilie Anne Jones.

She was the widow of John C. Rodgers. They married May 16, 1942, and he died April 22, 2002. A brother, Victor A. Fennel, and a sister, Nellie Marie (Mrs. Herbert) Smith, also preceded her in death.

<B>RODGERS </B>— Friends of Alta Mae Rodgers, who died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. Funeral services will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. John Hoogerbrugge, a chaplain at St. John Specialty Care Center, will officiate.
