Thomas A. Coleman, 69, of Petrolia Road, Petrolia, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 24, 1939, in Petrolia, he was the son of the late Andrew Adren Coleman and the late Wilda Lucas Sheakley. Mr. Coleman was raised by Delbert Gale Sheakley and the late Wilda Lucas Sheakley.

Mr. Coleman retired in 2000 from Sonneborn, formerly Witco, in Petrolia after 42 years.

He was a Protestant.

In the past, Mr. Coleman was very active in the Petrolia Borough Council, the Petrolia Fire Department and the Petrolia Water Authority, and he was a member of the Masonic lodge.

Mr. Coleman was an EMT.

He was a graduate of Karns City High School and attended Butler County Community College.

He enjoyed working in his yard, attending family gatherings and his dog, Cody.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife, Carol A. "Cindy" Coleman, who he married Dec. 13, 1956, at the Chicora United Methodist Church. He also is survived by three daughters, Paula Coleman of Butler, Mrs. Sharon Walker and her husband, Richard, of Butler, and Sandra Coleman of Petrolia; a grandson and his wife, Mick and Lisa Kendrick; four granddaughters, Autum Kendrick, Ginger Kendrick, Elizabeth Walker and Samantha Walker; two great-grandchildren, Mallory Kendrick and Spencer Schuelke; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Grazier and her husband, Kenneth, of Chicora; and a number of nieces and nephews.

<B>COLEMAN</B> — Friends of Thomas A. Coleman, who died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home Inc.</B>, 124 E. North St. Private funeral services will be held at Tom's request with Kenneth Griffiths, Marlon Morrow and also retired Baptist minister James Kamerer officiating.
