Heckard

Edith M. Goehring Heckard, 88, of Mars, formerly of Evans City, passed away Thursday evening at UPMC Passavant, Cranberry Township.

Born in Johnstown, March 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Wesley A. and Laura Meredith Goehring.

She was employed by Napco Aluminum, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the Plains Presbyterian Church with more than 60 years of membership. While at the church, she belonged to the missionary society, served 20 years as the financial secretary and was a Sunday school teacher, deacon and in charge of the dinners.

She was an avid quilter.

Surviving are a son, Richard D. Heckard of Evans City; six daughters, Mrs. Jack (Joann) Bark of Connoquenessing, Mrs. Dale (Eileen) Kaufman of Greenville, Mrs. Dean (Betty) Donaldson of Evans City, Mrs. Gary (Marilyn) Nicklas of Evans City, Mrs. Carl (Ruth) Kriebel of Mars and Kay Heckard of Clarington; a brother, David A. Goehring of Cranberry Township; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchild; a great-great-grandson; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David F. Heckard, who died July 28, 2006. They were married Oct. 5, 1936. A brother, a granddaughter and a great-great-grandson also preceded her in death.

<B>HECKARD</B> — Friends and relatives of Edith M. Goehring Heckard, who died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home</B>, Evans City. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Plains Presbyterian Church with Pastor Edward Heller officiating.
